Boeing Grant!

Thanks to our Boeing mentor Chuck Fleming, we got this email today! Well done to Chuck, Criez, and Gil for filling out this application.

Dear Applicant:

Congratulations! We are pleased to email the team you nominated was approved for a 2011 FIRST@Boeing Grant.

This grant covers registration for one 2011 FIRST Robotics Competition regional event, as well as the FIRST Kit of Parts. Boeing will disburse all funds directly to FIRST according to the terms and conditions outlined in the application requirements.

Mentors must return the Grant Acceptance Form, located at the end of this email, to the GRP FIRST-Boeing mailbox by Monday, December 6, 2010. Completion of this form will finalize the application process.

If you have any questions about the acceptance process, or preparing your team for the 2011 season, contact the FIRST@Boeing Employee Council via the GRP FIRST-Boeing mailbox.

Thank you for your commitment to helping high school students embrace math and science, and we look forward to seeing your team compete.

Sincerely,

The FIRST@Boeing Employee Council

Shop Orientation & Email Checks

There'll be a meeting this Thursday to learn about the various power tools in the shop and the safety rules that go along with them. We use some potentially pretty dangerous machines if you don't know how to use them properly, so it's important that everyone come. If you can't make it Thursday, we will have an alternate meeting next Tuesday. Both of these are in the shop after school, as per the usual, and will

Also, I know that I don't have everyone's email who have come to the meetings so far, so if you know people on the team, you should ask them if they're getting these emails, and if not tell them to give me their email address (I know you are always talking about robotics anyway).

Thanks

Meetings Update/Summary

So, just a summary/update of the various department meetings.:

Programming is meeting Mondays and Fridays, after school in the shop to approximately 3:30. For more information, contact me (matt.nulle@gmail.com).

Fabrication is meeting Tuesdays in the shop. Talk to Mr. Criez (kevin.criez@bellinghamschools.org) for more information about that team.

The fun department is having a meeting this Thursday, I'm guessing after school in the shop, but check back in for confirmation tomorrow and/or Wednesday. Talk to Payton Weidenbacher (paytonweidenbacher@yahoo.com) for details.

Fundraising Start

Well that was exciting! The first two people I contacted for marketing both got back to me within a day, each saying they will donate $500. This is waayyy faster than normal. Hopefully the rest of it goes as easily!

The new year begins...

This blog is going to be my temporary home. Hopefully, our website will be getting some upgrades that will make it easier to get information out to the team, but until then, I will be posting regular updates and information here. Check in periodically, especially if you missed a meeting.

Speaking of meetings... We had one Tuesday. We broke out into the departments and did various things. We discussed when we wanted to be meeting in each group between now and Kickoff on January 8th, and I'll be putting up that information as comments to this post as I get it from the leaders of each group. We also had some fun making Dixie Cup parachutes, courtesy of our Fun department.

If I'm slow about putting up information, or just miss it entirely, feel free to send me an email.

We are #3 alternate.
So we might be in the elimination round.
Unlikely, but expect the unexpected.
This entire week has been that.
